Chirp’s musicianship is a freewheeling, lilting, and satisfying conversation late into the night. Their back and forth has at its heart the beautiful, melodic guitar work of Jay Frydenlund, matched by Brian Long’s bass on point. It’s a progressive rock, jazz fusion jam supported by Ken Ball on guitar and carried by John Gorine’s tempo gliding drumming. With influences including Government Mule, Snarky Puppy, Steely Dan, Led Zeppelin, Vulfpeck, and The Beatles, this Ann Arbor-raised four-piece is known for following their songs through surprising changes as they build and swell. This year they won WUMD Michigan Radio Battle of the Bands. They’ve played an impressive 200 high-energy shows in the last three years, recruiting an enthusiastic fanbase around the state. Chrip can be seen throwing down at clubs and festivals all summer. With two live EPs, Live From Brownstone and Live At Willis Sound, available, look for a full length album from them in 2018.
