Festival Series & Programs

Today, the Ann Arbor Summer Festival produces two concurrent programs, one indoor and one outdoor, at various venues and spaces across the University of Michigan campus and in downtown Ann Arbor.

The indoor Mainstage series includes ticketed performances of world-class music, dance, theater, and comedy. The outdoor program, Top of the Park, is held along a beautiful campus green and offers admission-free concerts, movies under the stars, open-air spectacles, and unique family attractions. In addition to our indoor and outdoor series, the festival’s Beyond series includes large-scale outdoor special attractions and unique pop-up events throughout the city of Ann Arbor.

Within the Mainstage, Top of the Park, and Beyond series, be sure to check out all the additional activities and opportunities listed below for festival-goers every summer.

Bike Nights

Tuesdays are Bike Night at Top of the Park! Leave the car at home and peddle into town for free valet service and complimentary bike tune-ups near the east entrance of the Bell Tower.

Educational Activities

Each season we offer free workshops, master classes, and children’s activities that provide imaginative ways for the public to discover and appreciate the performing arts. In addition, we partner with individuals and local organizations on innovative outreach opportunities that foster community engagement with the arts.

Global Parties

Each season we throw a series of Global Parties that spotlight different ethnic and cultural traditions. Featuring performances by local and international artists, these World Music Wednesday nights showcase lively music and street dancing.

Kids Rock

Featuring some of the best national indie rockers turned kiddie-rockers playing kid-friendly music and tunes that make parents feel young again. Join us each Sunday at Top of the Park for this free family dance party with rockin’ bands for the kiddie set.

KidZone

An interactive area for our youngest concert-goers, the KidZone tent provides a fun and safe area for children and their parents to discover and explore a wide variety of hands-on activities with different community partners. From getting temporary tattoos, creating homemade instruments, or jamming out to rock band style, KidZone offers different nightly activities for families at Top of the Park.

Be sure to bring comfy blankets, purchase popcorn and other treats from festival vendors, and enjoy cinema al fresco on the green.

Retreat

A series of mind-body sessions at Top of the Park, this alternative happy hour lets you enjoy a relaxing late-afternoon nightly workout with classes in yoga, capoeira, and dance fitness. Led by experienced practitioners, all sessions are free, and take place at 5pm on the lawn of the Power Center.

Festival Footprint Initiative

The Ann Arbor Summer Festival is pleased to announce its Festival Footprint Initiative in partnership with Toyota. With Toyota’s support, we aim to transform our festival into a zero waste event over the next three to five years. In 2018, we debuted sustainability programming at Top of the Park to inspire and bring awareness to the environment. To learn more or get involved, email info@a2sf.org.

We believe art should be everywhere. Nature frames over 80% of our programming. Whether it’s an aerialist employing a blue-sky backdrop or magnolia trees shading a large spectacle along Ingalls Mall, nature is an extraordinary venue.

What remarkable action can you think of to get people talking about reducing waste? Share your thoughts @aasummerfest on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram using #festivalfootprint.

Ticket Programs

With 90% of our 100+ events free to the public, the Ann Arbor Summer Festival is committed to providing access to all members of our community.

By offering complimentary and low-cost tickets to students and disadvantaged residents with our Good Neighbor Ticket Program and Student Ticket Program, we are able to provide an invaluable opportunity to concert-goers whose financial and/or social situation would otherwise prohibit them from attending a ticketed event and enjoying the festival experience.

Volunteers

Volunteering for the Ann Arbor Summer Festival is a rich and rewarding experience that allows individuals, friends, co-workers, and families to participate by ushering, greeting guests, distributing information, collecting donations, and performing other helpful tasks. People of all ages and abilities are welcome to volunteer. In addition to an invaluable behind-the-scenes festival experience, all volunteers are eligible with each completed shift to earn complimentary tickets to select Mainstage performances and other insider perks, including special hospitality areas and more. Join in fun and learn how you can get involved here!
