Mariana Risquez

Saturday, June 16 @ 7pm
Rackham Stage

With stunning voice and a joyfulness that shines through on stage, the Venezuelan singer-songwriter Mariana Rísquez captures the heat and beauty of Latin music. Working with rumba, son montuño, salsa, Latin pop, and Afro-Latin fusion, she was the first Latin American woman to be nominated for the outstanding world vocalist Detroit Music Award this year. A studio artist and songwriter, her artistic career began with the release of “The colors and melodies of my expressions,” a 2012 exhibition of visual arts and music. In 2013, she moved to Michigan and took a well-deserved pause, returning to the music world in 2017. Since then, she has shared the stage with TOP alum and world musician Sean Blackman and has toured with Comparsa Sur, a group directed by the Chilean Ismael Durán. Be sure to make it out to TOP for this special evening of Latin music and dance and find out why she was baptized by the Latin press as “The New Queen of Latin Soul.”
