Benjamin Cohen and Sam Woldenberg are Heavy Color, a future beat, psych jazz, and electronic duo based out of Toledo, Ohio. Drawing from a mix of classic Afrobeat and Afropop, minimalist electronica, futurist instrumental hip hop, and Detroit boogie, they create a mysterious language of sound that traverses continents. Be amazed as a soulful electronic haziness weaves into the organic textures of African and Latin percussion-centric music. They are inspired by influences spanning Weather Report and Sun Ra to contemporary electronic music and experimental pop psychedelia. Four years ago Cohen travelled to the eastern borders the Democratic Republic of Congo to collaborate on new music and contribute to NGO efforts promoting gender equity and sustainable community development in farming regions. Listen for samples of musicians he recorded in the Eastern Congo.
