Estar Cohen

Composer and vocalist Estar Cohen brings gentle cascading arrangements of lovely jazz and spirited improvisations to A2SF this summer. Originally from Toledo and now based in Detroit, Cohen’s latest ensemble is rooted in original writing and resolute improvisation, an exploration of poetry, mindfulness, and curiosity in the stories that define us. The award-winning musician, poet, and educator was featured as an up-and-coming artist opening for legendary jazz vocalist Sheila Jordan, has released two albums as bandleader and two as a co-leader, and can be heard on Heavy Color’s soundtrack for Mark Ruffalo’s nature rights documentary Invisible Hand (2020). Cohen’s strong command of her voice as an instrument and natural sense of performance is sure to captivate audiences.
