Dara Tucker

Rackham Stage

Vocalist and songwriter Dara Tucker’s distinctive sound fuses the melodic and lyrical strains of America’s central plains with the risk-taking verve of roots and jazz music. Highly stylized and gifted with a powerful voice, Tucker leads her band, including guitar, bass, and drum, through a set that highlights her summer release, The Seven Colors. She says the collection of originals joins her seven influences: jazz, Americana, pop, blues, gospel, singer-songwriter, and soul. Guitar master Charlie Hunter (Norah Jones, John Mayer, D’Angelo) produced the album and plays on all the tracks. Tucker has toured with him, as well as opened for Grammy Award-winning vocalist Gregory Porter, and guested with Vince Gill and The Time Jumpers. She appeared on NPR’s Jazz Night in America and The Tavis Smiley Show. Additionally, she is the winner of the Johnny Mercer Award (2018), was the silver medalist (2017) in the American Traditions Vocal Competition, and captured Song of the Year (2017) honors at the Nashville Independent Music Awards. Come find out why Cassandra Wilson praised: “Dara Tucker is brilliant.”
