Wire in the Wood
Wednesday, June 13 @ 7pm
What compliments a warm, sunny night at Top of the Park best? Why, a Grove refreshment followed by two steppin’ it to the big stage for “Ann Arbor’s finest purveyors of barn-burnin-bluegrass, swing’n serenades and psychedelic string jams.” What could this possibly mean, you ask? Wire in the Wood is a tight bluegrass outfit with a strong presence on the local scene, exploring straight bluegrass, Django Reinhardt style gypsy jazz, and the prog rock permission of Phish and Talking Heads to string jam. Anchored by Billy Kirst on fast picking guitar, Michael Spaly on mandolin, Ryan Shea on stand up bass, and a dancing Jordan Adema on violin, their 7-song EP Things Fall Apart contains original songs about “richness, elation, bitterness, and despair.” As the house bluegrass band at The Filling Station and previously The Circus Bar, and with appearances at The Ark, Tree Town Sounds, Shorts Brewery, and Founders Tap Room, you’d place Wire in the Wood in the same family as Greensky Bluegrass and The Ragbirds: talented, easy-going, and a pleasure to listen to.
