Pink Martini’s “little orchestra” draws inspiration from the romantic Hollywood musicals of the 1940s and ‘50s and crosses genres to make an eclectic, modern sound. Mesmerizing with elegant arrangements of Latin music, jazz, cabaret, cinema scores and more, this intoxicating retro-pop ensemble is always a festival favorite and sells out quickly. Their latest release, Je dis oui!, traverses the world from France to Iran, Armenia, and South Africa and more, affirming the band’s 22-year history of global inclusivity and collaborative spirit.
Formed in Portland, Oregon, Pink Martini frequently plays with symphonies and orchestras, and recently sold out a run with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. Releasing 11 full-length albums on their own Heinz Records label, they have steadily grown a following largely through word-of-mouth, and they wouldn’t have it any other way. They have appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and Later with Jools Holland. Je dis oui! includes guest appearances by Rufus Wainwright, Ari Shapiro, and Ikram Goldman, and features the group’s first forays into Armenian and Xhosa music. Tonight’s vocalist will be the incomparable, Ms. China Forbes.
