Known as the “godfather” of West Michigan’s acoustic music scene where he first got started in 1970, and a champion of the Great Lakes State’s prodigious folk community, Grand Rapids’ Ralston Bowles also has led by example: He’s released three nationally acclaimed Americana studio albums while touring the United States and Europe. With a musical demeanor that’s part James McMurtry, part Bob Dylan, and part Steve Earle, he has performed and/or toured with T Bone Burnett, Arlo Guthrie, Dan Hicks, and Bob Dylan, among many others. An award-winning songwriter, his carefully arranged songs rise out of the traditions of Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, and Neil Young. Welcome him back to the festival for a solo acoustic set.
